The concepts of environmental protection and sustainability permeate my creative design projects.
The phenomenon of plastic pollution in the forest and the book Silent Spring served as inspiration for the fabric design in my work Infiltration. In this series, I experimented with a variety of unconventional materials and traditional fabrics, such as PVC fabrics, plastic tubes, yarns, wool threads, etc., and combined them with various techniques, such as knitting, drip cementing, and melting with a hot air blower, to reflect the theme of the interplay between pollution and the natural environment. Finally, I designed three pairs of gloves to express the idea that all pollution is caused by human hands, and took photos and videos of the final product in nature to express the wordless dialogue between hands and the environment.
In the artwork Regeneration, I drew inspiration from observing the waste of fabrics in factories, conducting research on the waste in the garment industry, and utilizing discarded fabrics collected from factories for my creations. Extracting elements such as fabric hanging, accumulation, chains, mechanical parts, pipes, packaging ropes, and buttons from on-site research in factories, I combined various crafting techniques such as weaving, knitting, and embroidery to design the fabrics, depicting the contrast and transformation between disorder and orderliness. Finally, I combined all the fabrics into a large fabric hanging on the machinery in the factory. I believe that these seemingly “imperfect” fragments of damage combine to create a unique aesthetic, contrasting sharply with the dreary factory environment.
